By intuition, the promotion of soldier can affect the strategies of the game drastically. Soldiers would not be sacrificed easily, and exchange of chariots or horses would be played more positively.

Also by intuition, I think the move order gives too much advantage to Chu (the green or blue) who make her setup according to Han's setup and move first.

A King is severely threatened by the opponent Queen's Guarding which would checkmate with the line half-open and unprotected . I don't know whether players would be encouraged to attack with Guarding or discouraged to defend opponent Guarding . They may also reserve Guarding for a fatal strike preventing from early and easy moving of Queen .

PS : I haven't played this variant for more than two years , which is not good of a CV inventor .

Interesting rules about leaving Rocks , leaving Vectors and movements of V and A . Movements and captures would become unpredictable as many Rocks and Vectors as there would be on the board . But how Cannons capture Rocks is not so clear according to the above .

I suggest Sittuyin the Burmese chess, Makruk the Thai chess, Shatar the Mongolian chess to be recognized as recognized chess variants. These are vintage games played by large group of people for centuries. The differences between them and chess or other historic variants are even more than that between Janggi and Xiangqi.

say that the queen in shatar is the same as FIDE chess. Which is right?

There is a question about the two essential elements of chess variants.
In some chekers variants a cheker can promote into a king, then we get pieces with different powers. This is one of two most widespread and important similarities. But chekers is still not some chess variant. We can even desighn a chekers variants with king in initial setup. Is this a chess variant?
Is the breakthrough game Camelot a chessvariant? It has pieces with different powers.
An elimination game with pieces of all pawns (or rooks, or queens) and a chess board is also called a chess variant. The reason is probably that pawn is derived from chess.
Once again, are these two most widespread and important similarities essential to chess variants?

Yesterday I made a serious mistake. Since the royal piece is not a king in chess but a gold general, a singgle major piece with a general can perform a checkmate in endgames. But it must be that the gold general on a higher rank and the green general on a lower rank.

I still have questions on Pegasus. Maybe this piece is so strong that gives gold advantage. The inventor set it on c1 in the opening. Because if set as queen in chess and general as king, Gold can checkmate by 1. Pf4++. Even the opening setup is gold Pegasus on c1, the shortest game could be 1.Pf3 Pc6 2. Pb4++. So if gold moves 1. Pf3, green has to defend b4 square. So it'sa tactic game right in the opening. But I believe a game with depth has possibilities of positional play.

I doubt if Pegasus is good to use. It leaps such a long space. Maybe it's hard to adjust its position. Has anyone approved that it can travel to every square on an 8x8 board?

Is it necessary to set all major pieces leapers? I suggest Pegasus could be a slider, which slides orthogonally to any direction and diagonally forward. This slider can checkmate green even if green general is on a higher rank.

Another question is why design Sergeant this way? Why not just use pawns in f.i.d.e. chess? Is there any necessity?

Any single major piece with a king can't perform a checkmate in endgame. I'm afraid this is too drawish.

The 'drowning rule' means that you can't use pawns to support cross-river attack. So just wait your enemy come from the other side of the river!
Another river rule in Catapults of Troy is also interesting. But these rules all make games more drawish, because they weaken two many pieces. I think a river rule should strengthen more pieces than weaken, or at least just weaken a few pieces like in Xiangqi.

ABC Chess. A variant with 8 armies of pieces generated by combining 1, 2 or 3 simpler pieces. (8x8, Cells: 64) [All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]

I think the rules should allow players set up positions of major pieces freely. Let players find out best setup for each army.
Tutti-Frutti has a ABC combination of rook bishop and knight, which is much too powerful. Armies in ABC chess are less powerful than that of tutti-frutti, which is better for cwda design. Players can define more armies with balanced power for ABC chess.
