I rather like the idea. Assuming fairly normal piece moves.

I would expand the piece set to start some fairy pieces on the empty faces, myself.

Plying chess on cube is good idea. By the way, i have an interesting idea: either player can also move cells with pieces according to Rubic's Cube rules! What do you think about it?

Just as a guess, I'm assuming they can move onto the empty 'side'
squares as per normal movements. The pawns would probably never see the
side squares, barring captures, so there may be a special rule for them.
If a pawn *did* capture to another face, it might very well continue
'forward' until it wraps around, resulting in movement that is 90
degrees from 'normal'. I'm assuming that's what the colored heads are
for; to determing the correct direction of a given pawn, since it might
otherwise result in some complicated bookkeeping.

As far as the corner squares go, I'm going to assume again that you just
can't move 'diagonally' from a corner square onto another face. This
would make things interesting for bishops, and pawns would have even less
opportunity for capture, but it would also make for some interesting
'shadows' of the board, places for kings to both hide and be trapped in,
that sort of thing.

In any case, like I said, I'm assuming. Rule Zero and all that. I know
I'd seriously consider purchasing one if the cost could be kept
reasonable. I WOULD like to see the rules, though.

What are the rules about how pieces can move on the two faces that start off empty? In particular can Pawns move to this area and if so how, and what happens at the eight corners where three squares meet instead of four?

The inventor has sent us the following information:
I have a link showing images and info on Cube Chess and Chess Cubic at www.ausinvent.com. On the left side at this site is 'online exhibition' that takes you to the games.

The game may be for sale soon, I will let you know as soon as I can,
awaiting the necessary funding to create commercially.

The addition of pawns could be implemented as Ben Good suggests but I
wanted to stay in keeping with the same number as orthodox chess.

also looks impressive. i wonder if this game wouldn't be improved by additional pawns, such as macrochess has. the colored pawn heads a nice touch tho (i had already observed that macrochess would have benefitted from something to that effect). is this game for sale? (yes, i could contact the inventor as is suggested on the page, but it would be easier if such info was put there to begin with.)
