Pawn with this way of movement on hexagonal board appeared in Shafran's chess, wich is earlier than McCooey's Chess.

There is even earlier hexagonal variant: Baskerville chess from 1929. It probably had pawns of McCooey and Shafran chess. By the way, where can i read about it (it's mentoided somewhere, but there is no it's full description).

Good point, there's no Baskerville Chess page on this site - and there isn't a rules page for Shafran's either, just the Friedlander implentation page.
