Can I get every recommendation in Chess Variant Construction Set twice? What boards and cuts do you recommend for hexagonal chess? What pieces for four player chess?
This is a major update, replacing outdated recommendations with recommendations for currently available products. For some reason, the What's New text is not showing up on the front page.
Where can I now purchase a gothic chess set, seeing as the website is down?
Is there any place I can purchase a gothic chess set now that the website is down?
I have a variant, besides the DoR chess, that uses a 14x10 board. How to play in a 12x12? And, the phi number for 14 is 10 and for 10 is 14, for 8 is 13... So in the beauty of the eye, 14x10 is more pleasant than 12x12. Hugs!
You are, of course, free to use whatever equipment you choose. But drawing a 12x12 board has its limitations. Unless you can fold it, it will be less portable. If a game's board is not rectangular, it becomes harder to use your 12x12 board. Although you might find it easier to draw a 12x12 board than to cut up some floppyboards, and I don't see how it is especially easier, it would not be easier to use the board when playing a game. It would seem easier by far to use a board that exactly matches the dimensions and shape of the game being played. Even if this is not your preference, calling articles on making boards useless has no more merit than a lazy person calling books on exercise useless.
Lol! I don't like to play a game of 10x10 board on a board of 12x12. It's not aesthetic.
Who needs it... It's much easier to just draw 12x12 board (bigger boards are rare) and just ignore ranks and files wich are not used in game you playing... Of course, it's possible to draw bigger board... If need board with unusual squares (like in Smess or Altair) just draw what needed in certain place in board... In other words, articles about making boards are useless... However, maybe, someone will like these boards, i was slightly intersted too.
Another option to get board segments is to buy the Taurus 4-player Chess board. You get an 8x8 (64 squares) plus 4 segments of 8x3 (24 squares) for a total of 160 squares. For $9.95 per board, you can't go wrong. http://hometown.aol.com/taurusgaming/myhomepage/index.html
I'll try it in wood, and with a wooden open frame to keep table pieces togheter. So, every time I need a board, I cut a frame and put the table pieces inside. This coment is related to this shogi pieces coment: http://www.chessvariants.org/d.photo/symshogi/index.html
