FEN Code: 13m8a3rnbqkbnr3pppppppppp25/25PPPPPPPPPP3RNBQKBNR3M8A13 gives Grand Chess on a 12x12 board, with the pieces rearranged a little. Ignore the four dots on the diagram above. For Omega Chess on a 12x12 board, first replace the Marshalls and Cardinals with Champions. Next replace the dots on d2, i2, d11, i11 with Wizards. Omega Chess is played on a 12x12 board that has forty squares missing from the edge - it also works for playing many 12x12 postal games.

There already exist chess on infinite board. Just like this variant, but infinite number of ranks and files (if player moved his piece out of visible board, he must tell, how far is piece).

1.g4-g6 h9-h8 2.f4-f5 King g10-h9 3.Bishop h3-g4 King h9-i8 4.Bishop g4-j7

uses both Bishops to checkmate on this large board.

Sometimes you just want to have fun! I recommend trying this game and have created a preset here.

Its been a while since I looked in here, but I've been playing this game
occasionally with friends. Our skill levels are, putting it kindly, rather
low.

However I noticed that over many games, as my friends became accustomed to
the larger playing field, modified their style of play to take advantage of
the added space.

Generalizing from this admittedly limited sample set I suspect equally
matched opponents, when first exposed to a 12x12 game, would initially
play in their comfort zones, i.e. a traditional 8x8 game, but start
experimenting with the bigger field over time.

I will admit that the first and last 2 rows 'behind' the pieces are
typically empty until well into the end game.

'ABCLargeCV': Now this one would not be so bad as the previous 'Double Chess'(192 squares), even though it says Jose Capablanca wasted his time playing Double Chess. (A general criticism was that that world champion did not study scores enough.) Despite piece density just over 20 percent, even lower than DC, players just would not use the double outer perimeter a lot. So Chess 12x12 is better than Capablanca-tested Double Chess, conveniently having the same piece-types.
