Should the Ox also be allowed to make a (FIDE) Knight move once every six months, when it is an 'equine ox' (see date of comment)? On a more serious note, I notice that the Knight of this game is really a Gnu and the Fool essentially a reflecting Nightrider (with extra limitations and powers). The Gate is, as you say, not really a piece at all but does move like a Cardinal. References to such familiar variant pieces might aid understandability.
