Michael - I think your description is very apt.

'Strong element of bluff, significant element of chance, opportunity for
skill and planning.'

Ven chess is much more similar to a battle simulation than chess is
itself.

comment, it obviously worked for the wrong reason. I am now aware of the
unwritten protocol.

An excellent game that anybody with a sense of adventure, a chess set, a
piece of paper, a pencil and an opponent can play.

Gives the effect of simultaneous play. The alternating movement phase
gives a whole new dynamic that is not available in ordinary chess.

The fear of a Vengeance move can stop your strategy in it's tracks.
