I played the Tourny at Anime Expo. There were only four tables, so eight
players. Each table had one set of 14 different pieces. We RPS for first
choice, loser got 2 choices on first turn. We had to keep these same
pieces for all three games.

Game 1 - I only brought out one Masetai, looked like a turtle, moved like
gold general (shogi), but not backwards, when powered up it had the same
move, but it gives 6 points every time it moves. I walked this piece down
the side of the board, got my 60 points and won very quickly. This is the
same as powering up the navia. I found this to be the easiest way to win
The turtle may end up being one of the most commonly used pieces. It is
very dangerous if it is summoned to a weak side of your board. 48 points
if it walks all the way down the board, and more if you find a way to
move
back to your side of the board.

Games 2 and 3 were tougher and too long to descide here.

Pieces I remember:
Most pieces added rock or bishop like moves when they powered up.

Navia Guard - this a power that several pieces had. It is the ability to
be summoned onto any square adjancent to the Navia

One piece sent any piece on the board to the graveyard when powered up.
(14 points)
One piece sent any piece on the board to the Keep when powered up.
The keep is were the Masetai are before they are summoned to the board.
(6 points)
Both of these pieces went to the graveyard after powering up

One piece can teleport a piece to the 3 squares in front or behind it for
4 points.

There has been a lot of concern about everyone using high powered pieces.
I choose low to mid powered pieces and I think it really helped me. I was
able to power up several pieces and start threatening my opponents pieces
very quickly. I am planning to include a navia guard, maybe 1 high
powered
piece, and then 5 mid to low powered pieces that I think are a good value.
