I immediately start to love this game. It look well composed and balanced with interesting pieces and rules. And it plays well. --JKn
No other variant I saw had such beatifully constructed peices and unique stategy.
The Flier includes all the moves of the Dwar - a nonleaping piece in JETAN. The Assassin is similar to the Flier - a leaping piece in JETAN. Strategies Note: capturing a Wyrm and giving check at the same time is usually an instant win, as the rules state that your opponent's next move must be the automatic hatching of a new Wyrm (whenever possible). This means checkmate.
While playing the game with fantasychess I noticed the following feature not explicitly mentioned in the rules: A leader may capture a protected wyrm when there is a forced hatching in the next move. The leader cannot be captured by the protecting piece and happily walks out of check in the next move. Hence sometimes it is favourable not to be able to hatch. --JKn
This is a comment on David Paulowich's old comment: If you capture a wyrm and simultaneously check the leader, than a new wyrm is prevented from hatching. At least this is the behaviour implemented in the fantasy chess program. --JKn
I've tried several times over the year to download the stand-alone program for this game but the link appears to be permanently broken. Does anyone know where to obtain it?
I hate rifle pieces. How about the Ranger moves as it does, but captures 2 or 3 orthogonally?
Sorry, the link should work again:

Thanks. The Sons of Mithra is a chess as good as Dragon Chess.
This variant is truly amazing and deserves more publicity.
The link on the page for downloading the computer version is very old, the server does not exist anymore.
Here is a new, permanent link that should work from now on:
Fantasy Chess Windows version
The program is dead again.
By which you mean that the link is not working. If the creator of this program would like to provide us with a copy we can host here, that would be best. That way, it will remain available for the life of this website.
