Interesting to see so much reference to the Frog, Toad, and Newt. The Frog is a piece that I have at times used in variants myself. It has a presence as a creature of the marshlands here, here, here, and here. My Trebucheté Chaturanga variants use both Frog and Newt, although the latter piece appeared under a different name until I heard of Newt and decided to use it.

Does anyone know of any name for any other amphibian compounds (e.g. 3:0 and 3:1, 3:0 and 4:0, 3:0 and 4:2, 3:0 and 4:4, 2:0 and 5:0)? It has been remarked that the combined 3:3 and 5:5 leaper has the Bishop's binding, the combined 3:3 and 15:0 the Tripper's, and the combined 5:5 and 15:0 the Quitter's, but the piece combining all three is unbound. Well cubic boards have a far less unwieldy such piece. The combined 2:0:0 and 3:3:0 leaper has the Bishop's binding, the combined 2:0:0 and 3:3:3 one the Unicorn's, and the combined 3:3:0 and 3:3:3 one the Trebuchet's (my use of this name is to distinguish from the full Threeleaper on cubic boards, which can also make the unbound 2:2:1 Ninja leap) - but the compound of all three is unbound.

At the 'Concise Guide' there was discussion of Amphibean p-ts with some overlapping information to present last winter, when Jorg was suggesting additions to the piece-types section. Piece-types, Amphibeans.

That answer look like a no. Does that mean that they are up for their first naming? If so, I have an idea for a name for Camel+Trebuchet, together with real (but non-Amphibian) words to replace Endknight and Diacamel. Such a revamp is not something that I plan to post on a weekday morning as so many of my variants use the Endknight, so there is time fr a last-minute "I know a name" from anyone who does. It seems fair to assume that no-one has come up with names for Elf+Trebuchet, Elf+Tripper, or Zombie compounds yet.

I had little time last weekend, but I've now noticed that my monthly weekday off is this week, so I'll post the changes then. I've now got names to extrapolate to all cubic compounds of coprime oblique and thrice-coprime radial simple pieces. The following are amphibian and the suggested names are amphibian ones:

Camel+Trebuchet: to be named Canetoad
Camel+Zombie: to be named Caecilian
Elf+Trebuchet: to be named Leiopelma
Elf+Tripper: to be named Leptodactyl

The following are unbound because the oblique component:

Endknight: to be renamed Catapult after a device similar in principle to a trebuchet
Knight+Tripper: to be named Chaperone after one gallantly accompanying another on a trip
Knight+Zombie: to be named Cannibal from the habits of zombies in recent films

The following are bound because the radial component's binding is a subset of the oblique one's binding:

Diacamel: to be renamed Camper after one going o a trip with a tent or caravan
Elf+Zombie: to be named Legba after a Voodoo spirit

Compounds of the Zebra, Giraffe, Antelope, Zemel, Satyr, Gimel, Sexton, Ninja, Fortnight, Fencer, Underscore, et cetera will be extrapolated in the usual way

I have completed the list of Amphibian pieces out to the third perimeteer on a cubic board. I am still interested to know of any beyond that. They are as follows. Blanks indicate a cpompound that is still bound.
1 in 9 squares
1 in 27 cubes
3:0:0 Trebuchet
1 in 18 squares
1 in 54 cubes
3:3:0 Tripper
1 in 27 squares
1 in 81 cubes
3:3:3 Zombie
1 in 2 cells
1:1:0 FerzFrogPaddick
2:1:1 SextonSenetoadSeecillian
3:1:0 CamelCanetoadCaecillian
3:2:1 FortnightFonetoadFoecillian
1 in 4 cubes
1:1:1 ViceroyBullfrogNatterjack
3:1:1 ElfLeiopelmaLeptodactyl
3:3:1 UnderscoreNuiopelmaNuptodactyl
1 in 4 squares or subset
1 in 8 cubes or subset
2:0:0 DabbabaToad
2:2:0 ElephantNewt
2:2:2 EunuchEft
Extending to the 4th perimeter requires adding those pieces replacing:
Ferz/Sexton/Camel/Fortnight with Nimel/Arbez/Effarig - names derived e.g. Nimel+Trebuchet=Ninetoad;
Dabbaba/Elephant/Eunuch with Cobbler/Charolais/Srene/Commuter/Nhirolais/Corpse, as yet unnamed (unless you know better).

Extending to the 5th perimeter requires adding those pieces replacing:
Ferz/Sexton/Camel/Fortnight with Zemel/Monk/Gimel/Sustainer/Votary/Epoletna names derived e.g. Zemel+Trebuchet=Zenetoad;
Viceroy/Elf/Underscore with Exorcist/Oddfellow/Fieldmouse/Feaster/Broadwayman names derived e.g. Exorcist+Trebuchet=Xeiopelma;
Trebuchet/Tripper/Zombie with Quibbler/Quitter/Skeleton., as yet unnamed (unless you know better).

Trebuchet+Quibbler, Tripper+Quibbler, Zombie+Quibbler, Trebuchet+Quitter, Zombie+Quitter, Trebuchet+Skeleton, Tripper+Skeleton are also amphibious and also as yet unnamed (unless you know better).
