Proposal for New Chess Variant Tournament[Subject Thread] [Add Response]

HURRAY! I'm back. Thank you Greg, and thanks for taking an editorship. As far as the tournament, most of my study has been in categories 3 and 4 and most of 6. Unfortunately I have little to no experience in the others. I feel comfortable with 1, Fischer Random 2, Makruk 5, Cylinder and 7, Wildebeast or CwDA.

Welcome back, John!  When you get a chance, can you please rank the games in each category?  I'm assigning points to each game based on everyone's ranking.  You have time- this won't be finalized until this weekend at the earliest.  Thanks!

I haven't voted yet, because the preset for Opulent Chess doesn't enforce the rules. I could probably do it myself, but maybe Greg would like to do it as an exercise in programming a game for Game Courier. I think it could be done by modifying the code for Grand Chess to include some extra pieces.

I'll vote neutral. As I said earlier I'm fine with whatever games get picked.

Greg Strong wrote on Wed, May 17, 2017 05:27 PM UTC:

Hi Fergus, can you please take a look at the Grand Chess preset?  It was my intention to modify it for Opulent, but it is not showing the 2-space pawn move properly.  I looked at it and believe the issue is in the include files and I didn't want to mess with your includes.  Thanks!

I fixed the display of the two-step move, but I still have to fix it to ask what you would like to promote a Pawn to.

Greg Strong wrote on Fri, May 19, 2017 05:56 AM UTC:

Ok, Opulent Chess preset has been updated with full rule enforcement.  Also, piece sets have been grouped so players can select alfaerie or abstract graphics.  I also added a second alfaerie option for players that prefer the more common chancellor/archbishop graphics rather than the alternate images I prefer.

One strange thing - the preset is showing up on the What's New page as expected, but the text it is showing is the primary item description rather than the "whats new text" I think it should be showing.

@Greg Strong

Hello Greg, long time no se I could get back to you for unrelated matter!

During our tournament Beronlina Game you have made an ilegal move as far as I can see, as you have moved an berolina pawn regularilly, I guess it is excusalbe but still :)!

Moreover, in the other two games of mine this rounds, my opponents have not moved in a week, is there any way to promt them, me or you?

Greg Strong wrote on Sun, Sep 17, 2017 04:02 PM UTC:

Hi Aurelian,

I'm not sure what you mean - my last move was a pawn from d5 to c4, a diagonal move that was not a capture.

Sorry your opponents aren't moving.  You can certainly send them an email.  There are links to the id pages for all participants on the top of the tournament page.  Hopefully the come back soon!

@Greg Strong

Hello, I'm terribly sorry, it seems I miscounted my pawns. Silly me I guess.

I'll try to contact my other opponents, thanks for your help.

@Greg Strong,

I have failed to contact my other 2 opponents, I don't seems to find their emails, could you further help me please?

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Wed, Sep 20, 2017 08:03 PM UTC:

Go to each game, then click on your opponent's name at the bottom of the board. You will then see the email address as a captcha. Solve the captcha by entering the correct email address, and you will be given a link to it. I already checked, and both of your opponents have their email addresses publicly available.
