Penta War ZIP file. Huge game with five clans.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]

well, i am always interested in multi-player games, and this no doubt looks
pretty amazing. As you say, zillions is not very good playing multi-player
variants, best for all human play.
now, i downloaded and set up, and yes, it is a little too big for screen,
so i did as you said, and tried to set up 'smaller' verison, but though
the pieces were now smaller, the board remained the same.
i don't know if i did an error in setting up, but it seems to me that the
board, in 'small.zip' is the same as the other one.
have i done something wrong?
this game could be really good, because of the piece movements, as you
say, because of short range moves, you don't have to worry about pieces
far away 'hitting' you.

Strange. I tested it and it worked. Maybe it has something to do with the
directory structure. In the Penta directory should be the following
files:

Admin.zif
Board.zif (Replaced with the one from small.zip)
Clans.zif
Moves.zif
Palace.zif
Penta.zrf
Variants.zif
Images\ (Contents completely replaced with .bmp's from small.zip)

There should also a board.bmp in Small.zip\Images.

ok, i tried setting up again, and it is fine, i don't know what i did
earlier, but as murphy says, if something can go wrong, it will, he he :)
i'll check it out. (i notice not multi-player, multi-clan, 2 player game sorry)

well this is no doubt very interesting, amazing really. sadly, using the
small graphics makes it difficult to see the pieces clearly. i think, as
you say, it would be good if the different clans were different colors,
this would make a lot easier.
it does seem a little crowded though, once you set all the kings/clans
up.
it could be better to make the clans not so big, i don't know.
it is just difficult to test. it could even be played on smaller board,
with fewer pieces, but still, i think this is a very, very good game,
highly original. well done.

Good point. I got used to those piece images by playtesting and forgot that it may be a bit too hard. I've created a new piece set based on the images of the Chess clan and colored markers. If you want to use the small images, you must use the Board.zif from the original small images. You can use both piece sets with the new Clans.zif.

now this looks a lot better with the colors, you can tell the clans apart fairly easily .. when i get time, i'll have to test this game out now.

Where do these beautiful graphics come from? I've never seen the 'Galatic' graphics before. Are these graphics copyrighted? What license are the graphics released under?

Thanks for your time.

If you go to Game Courier (Via Chess Variants main page -> Play -> Game
Courier). Click on the Editor. You can also reach this page by going to any
Game Courier preset and choose 'Edit this preset'. Then, you see a table on
which the game is defined. If you set the 'Set group' to 'Chess', then you
can set the 'Set' to 'Galactic Graphics'. Then, click on update and the
game pieces will change into the Galactic graphics. If you then scroll
down, you see a whole alphabet of pieces for both White and Black. You can
see other piece sets as well.

Update: I see that my link didn't work and that Christine had the link to an
even more complete set of Galactic graphics. I used only the 26 from Game
Courier. Nice :)
