In Shogi variants a piece identiacl to this, except without the initial double move, is called the Iron General. A bit of a discrepancy in rank!
Yes, but Shogi has a whole bunch of generals. The promotion in rank is necessary to avoid falling from sight :)
Note that Problemists know this piece under the name Graz pawn (german: Grazer Bauer) or twin pawn (german: Zwillingsbauer). --JKn
"The Sergeant is a logical development of the Pawn and Berolina Pawn, since it combines the movements of both" Not so logical as it only do the double step as pawn and not also as berolina pawn.
I agree with Chebetol. Also, "In the diagram below, the Sergeant can move and capture to all the squares marked with a black circle. The Sergeant can make its initial(non-capturing) double-step to the square marked with a green circle." In the diagram, the black circles are green, and the green is red! This page deserves a second look maybe.
