This variant is fun to play, and the notes to the game are quite interesting. However, as the notes indicate, black will win all the time. What might give white more of a chance would be to have two iron knights, one a nightrider and the other a 'double' or 'super' knight as described in those variants. I think this will help to even out black's inherent advantage.

I think my idea of giving white two iron knights would give white a chance to win, especially if one iron knight was a 'double move' or 'super knight' and one a nightrider. A nightrider alone will not mate the black king (experience from 'Nightrider Chess.') With the help of a 'double knight,' the two iron knights should be able to win. I have played 'Iron Knight' many times, and lost many times. I have, however, been able occasionally to draw perpetual check by staying close the black king. If that's the purpose of this variant, its hard to do, but it is possible. I would like to see a two iron knight variant as described above.

Besides an iron 'super knight' and an iron nightrider to give white a chance to win, another option might be to give white three iron standard knights, rather than one. For the most part, the best white can hope for with one iron knight is a stalemate by repetition. It would probably give the white player more incentive with the other knight options, rather than scrambling for just a draw (which presumably is a considered a 'win' for white.)
