Reformed Chess
This page contains one or more presets for playing a game online with Game Courier, an online server for playing Chess variants by correspondence.
In Reformed Chess a pawn can swap with an enemy piece located on the last rank, except the king. If a pawn has reached the seventh rank, and can move forwards to a square occupied by an enemy piece (except the king), then the two can change place. Otherwise regular rules apply. Note that there is also an alternative variant where a pawn on the sixth rank can change place with an enemy pawn on the seventh rank. Endgames are much more likely to end in a win.One can move by pointing and clicking. Also the new swap move is automated. The preset, at each move, generates an email to the opponent's address. But one can also play directly by intermittently clicking the browser's update button. The opponent's move is visible in the diagram. The preset, however, does not notify you of check, etc. Pawns are automatically promoted to queen. If you want to promote to another piece you must type the move manually (e.g., add N a8; capture a7).
