Wives Versus Guards

This page contains one or more presets for playing a game online with Game Courier, an online server for playing Chess variants by correspondence.

The idea behind this game, inspired by Betza's Black Ghost was to create a slight material imbalance favoring black to offset White's first move priority. Wives and Guards seemed to stymy Black's pieces too much initially, so Eric Greenwood decided to hide them. The question we have for you is this: Does one game favor White (perhaps Wives and Guards?) and the other favor Black? (Wives and Guards: Hidden Version)? Or does one player have an advantage in both? Or are they both equal? Or one of them equal and the other not?

A word about the title of this game. It was whimsically derived from the idea of Wazirs and Ferzes together making for WiFe(s). - JGG
