Great site but you shoud know that the piece you call Mao is actually Ma.
Ma is the Chinese word for horse, not Mao which can mean cat, feather or
hair, rivet and thick or dense, depending on the tone.

Not really so easy for a newb like me, so it defeats the purpose of learning, also, it is confusing as most of the time we can't trace the play the comp made, if we can't SEE the moves, again, how can we learn ? thanks

Why is there no 'maharaja' in the initial position?

How does one become a Contributor to Chess Variants?

I have a new Bishop Adjustment Rule that I want to publish (next to Carlos Cetina's BCR rule), and I have 3 news variants that I've created that I also want to publish.

David Howe wrote on Sat, May 10, 2008 05:51 PM UTC:
Jose, you are now a contributor. Please feel free to publish your variants...

Jose Carrillo wrote on Sat, May 10, 2008 07:32 PM UTC:
Thanks David.

I did my first contributions, the Modern Random Chess variant:

and the new Bishop Adjustment Rule:

Admins,

Can someone please update the Query page on 'M' items below:
http://www.chessvariants.org/index/mainquery.php?type=Any&startswithletter=M&orderby=LinkText&displayauthor=1&displayinventor=1

to include the Modern Random Chess Game Courier preset:
http://play.chessvariants.org/pbm/play.php?game%3DModern+Random+Chess%26settings%3DMRC

Thanks.

Hi Admins,

A corrections for the What's New Page:
http://www.chessvariants.org/index/whatsnew.php

For the week ending May 14, 2008 there are two Game Courier Presets entries for Modern Random Chess.

The one that says Author Jose Carrillo, Inventor Gabriel Maura, is actually for Modern Chess (not Modern Random Chess). The other one is OK.

A request: for the informational page for MRC64, can you add the text description 'Modern Random Chess 64' next to the link? (just like it was done for the MRC64 Game Courier Preset entry).

Thanks.

So I was curious; why can a pawn, upon reaching the opposite side of the chess board, not remain a pawn? I personally see no reason why this should not be included in the rules. I might even go so far as to suggest the pawn be allowed to begin his trek back across to where he came from.

I was playing a game of chess yesterday and my king had been put in check, but on my turn all i had to do was move my rook and then my opponents king would be check mated. Is it legal to check mate my opponent while i myself am in check?

Gary Gifford wrote on Fri, Jul 18, 2008 07:49 AM UTC:
If your King is in check you must do one of the following: (a) move your king out of check, (b) block the check (interpose), or (c) capture the checking piece or pawn. b and c do not work in cases of double-check and b will not work against knight checks.

You could not checkmate your opponent while leaving your own king in check.

When an opponent puts you in checkmate but does not realize it and calls check, is it still checkmate or does the fact that he did not call checkmate have some bearing?

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 12:24 PM UTC:
It is still checkmate.

Hi chessvariants team! I tried to submit a chess variant 'Perleberger Bridge Chess' via e-mail to the general contact address one month ago. Without a reply until now I'm afraid my e-mail got lost? Is there another way for newbies to submit content? Thanks in advance. :-)

M Winther, read this: 'This form allows any person that has previously
submitted material that has been published on these pages, to post their
own pages'.
So, i can't use this yet.

So how much time i need to wait before games i send are published? If they where not published for a long time, does it becessary means that my games are not suitable?

M Winther wrote on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 04:52 AM UTC:
If you are a registered user you can submit chess variants using that form. Why don't you try.
