It does not make sense to comment here regarding the opening phase of the game in Makruk and Sittuyin.

In other words, Pawn promotion needs to be linked to the victory conditions. After dropping the 'Bare King Rule' in my recent attempt at a Grand Makruk variant, I chose promotion to the War Elephant, trusting that King and War Elephant can force a stalemate victory against a lone King. Makruk is a 'modern' chess variant, where stalemate is a draw, causing problems when all you have left on the board is a Met (Ferz) or two.
