Muller, it is interesting to note the 0.5 difference between bishop and
knight in Capablanca's chess. An untweaked Zillions regards the
difference as 0.523 in the beginning and as 0.446 in the middlegame. Both
pieces increase their dynamic value, but the value of the knight increases
more, having to do with the centralization of the knight. More than +0.5 is
regarded as a clear advantage, but I cannot accept that the party who
exchanges a knight for a bishop has almost achieved a clear advantage.
In my own slightly tweaked version the difference is 0.499(!) in the
beginning, but the difference is reduced in the middlegame, to 0.279. But
a 0.3 points difference is significant enough. I have always though of
this as a drawback to Capablanca's chess. That's why I invented the
Donkey and the Kwagga, which are equally valuable as a bishop on the 8x10
board.
