As if chess wasn't hard enough!   I thought of some more variations:
 
 
Black and white both have just one piece but white isn't allowed to move.
 Black gets to do what ever he wants, watch TV, play video games, nap and
white has to sit and stare at the board.  The game ends when white forgets
who he is.
 
White has all the pieces, black has a bazooka.  White can move anywhere he
wants but if he moves a piece black lets him have it.
 
Black has a bowling ball and white has a ping pong ball.  They play a
variation of rock paper and scissors.  White always loses.
 
Both players have all the normal pieces.  White moves first.  Black sells
the house.  New people move in and have white arrested.
 
Black has all the pieces, white has none.  Black throws his pieces at
whites head until he cries.  
 
 
A hundred years from now someone will say that people in Ohio played these
a hundred years ago.  I can't wait!
