Falcon Chess RFNB

This page contains one or more presets for playing a game online with Game Courier, an online server for playing Chess variants by correspondence.

Here is a preset for playing George William Duke's Falcon Chess. Using a modified starting setup, derived from Orthodox Chess (which is RFNBQKBNFR.)

Click here to start the preset.

This preset will enforce legal piece movement and spot check, checkmate, and stalemate. Click on the image to go to the preset.

When castling, the King is allowed to move to any free square between its original position and the Rook's original position. When the King moves only one square, you must enter a double move, such as K f1-g1; R j1-f1 or k f8-e8; r a8-f8.

Note: Falcon Chess is protected by U.S. Patent No. 5690334

If anyone wants to experiment generally with the game (and play it with mutators,)

You might want to add, say, 'Suicide' to the game's name before issuing an invitation.

The opening shouldn't be too different from Orthodox chess. I think it's even better because Rooks can develop quickly with moves like 1.a4 , which in normal chess would be thwarted by 1.. e4 . Not so in Falcon Chess. Also there aren't any threats of immediate exchanges or quick deadly attacks at the two undefended pawns (Though care should be taken from Bishop threats.)

It would be nice to see how this works out.
