Rules

Cavalier Chess, created by Fergus Duniho, is played exactly like Chess except with mostly different pieces. Starting in the Rook's place, the Marshall moves as a Rook or Knight. Starting in the Knight's place, The Nightrider can make successive Knight leaps in the same direction until it reaches an occupied space. It's a rider like a Rook or a Bishop, but each step it makes is a Knight move. Starting in the Bishop's place, the Paladin moves as a Bishop or Knight. The Queen is the only piece also in Chess. It moves as a Rook or a Bishop. Starting in the King's place, the Knight King moves as a Knight or a King. The object is to checkmate it. Unlike the King in Chess, it may not castle. Taking the Pawn's place, a Cavalier moves as a Chinese Chess Knight, moving one space orthogonally, followed by one space diagonally outward. When it isn't blocked, it can reach the same spaces as a Knight, but unlike a Knight, it can be blocked on its orthogonal step. Upon reaching the last rank, it promotes to the piece whose starting square it landed on, or if it lands on the Knight King's initial space, to any non-royal piece of the player's choosing. It is not a Pawn and does not have any of the moves of one.
