The Royal piece in Xiangqi is a Wazir (the General).
Cool! Now we also have the Ajax Xiangqi King (or General) (an Ajax Wazir) to add to the royal repertoire! ;-) http://www.chessvariants.org/index/msdisplay.php?itemid=MSajaxxiangqi

Fergus, My opponent Thomas has made an illegal take back of moves in our 3rd round Euchess game. How do we return the game to the position after my last legal move, which he also took back. I sent my opponent an email to try to sort this out, but his email address is no longer valid, and the email bounced. Can you please stop the clock in this game until the issue gets resolved? Thanks. Jose http://play.chessvariants.org/pbm/play.php?game=Euchess&log=crazytom-j_carrillo_vii-2010-59-178
No problem Thomas. Everything is back in track. You may want to update the email address on your profile though.

This is an interesting twisting rule that can be applied to any variant. Well done Tony!

Here is a preset for Schachdame that doesn't enforce any rules, but allows the game to be played. http://play.chessvariants.org/pbm/play.php?game%3DSchachdame%26settings%3Ddefault

I agree with Carlos, Daniil's proposal is quite interesting...
I would play it on 9x9, it reminds me of Modern Chess (with reverse symmetry).
Of course, Bishops would start up on same color squares. You are using Carlos Cetina's Bishop Conversion Rule to solve that problem.
Two other options you can try are:
- Bishop Adjustment Rule
- Using Ajax Bishops instead of regular Bishops
What do you call this variant? Frolov Chess!
====
I present: Frolov Chess - Ajax Bishops Variation
With Ajax Bishops (Bishops get an additional one-step non-capturing orthogonal move (Wazir)).
I like the name Chancellor better for the N+R, and ArcBishop for the N+B compound.
Like Ajax Chess, this variation uses reverse symmetry. The initial placement of Chancellor and ArcBishop can be interchanged, but reversed symmetry must be maintained.
Pawns can move one or two steps at any time until reaching (but including) the middle (5th) rank. This will create several new opportunities for en passant captures.
This means that a white pawn at e5 can play e5-e6 or e5-e7; but a white pawn at e6 can only play e6-e7.
Does anyone want to play a game?

The Guard's on Korean Chess don't move like Wazirs. They can also move diagonally on the diagonals in the palace. The King in Xiangi does move like a Wazir, and Chinese Chess is another historical old variant.

Just got in the mail today a set of Dragon Chess I purchased on ebay. Not too impressed with the 3-squares movement of the Dragon... But a nice looking set to have for playing variants (I'll most likely redefine the movement of the Dragon). My 9 year old son loved the look of the set, specially the Dragons. I saw these Renaissance pieces years ago (never owned this type of set) when I was in university. What I paid for the Dragon Chess set was money well spent, and it is in brand new condition.

Agree with H.G. Castling makes both positions different, and no symmetrical. For instance, g-castling (O-O): In 'B B R K R N N Q' g-castling is accomplished by the King jumping 3 squares, and the Rook moving once. In 'Q N N R K R B B' g-castling is accomplished by just having the King jump over the f-rook, while the rook stays on the same spot. Also, b-castling in one of the positions is not equivalent to g-castling on the other. There is no symmetry because of castling.

Fergus, When reviewing completed games, after pressing the View button, the next move is no longer automatically filled in in the text box, so that if one pressed the View button repeatedly the game would progress a move at a time. Now we have to locate the next move within the drop down each time which makes reviewing games very painful.

Not true. For instance, in Chess3 if the Rook is located on 1A1 it can move to: 1A2, 1A3, 1A4, 1A5, 1A6, 1A7, 1A8, 1B1, 1C1, 1D1, 1E1, 1F1, 1G1, 1H1, 2A1, 3A1. In Millenium 3D Chess, a Rook at 1A1 can additionally move to 2A2, 3A3, 2B1 and 3C1. The Millenium 3D Queen also has the same additional mobility accross levels as the Millenium 3D Rook. In Chess3 a Pawn on 1B2 can move to: 1B3, 1B4, 2B2 or 3B2 on his first move. In Millenium 3D Chess, a Pawn at 1B2 can additionally move to 2B3 or 3B4. Promotion rules in Chess3 are not clear. Chess3 doesn't make any mention about Castling or En Passant in the rules, Millenium 3D does. Full rules for Millenium 3D Chess are at: http://webspace.webring.com/people/pm/millennium3dchess/millennium_3d_chess.pdf
