Alekhine Chess has a different dynamic. Beside being a 14x8 playing field,
all its leapers have immediate access the field.
This is not necessarily a bad thing. It does create the potential of very
powerful pieces making up the opening moves. Once one player introduces
one of these leapers, it almost becomes mandatory that the opponent
respond in kind.
I recognized this in Octa-Asthapada, a 3D Chess game with lots of really
powerful leapers. These fairly dominated the entire first half of the
game.
Each leaper in the Demon Game will take at least one developing move before
it can access the central field. Creating the dynamic that these leapers are
developed slowly during the game. Now Pawn structure can form the majority
of opening moves.
