Grandmaster here is necessary piece-type to invent. Nobody bothered to conclude the Nightrider thought before, and Grandmaster is super-Nightrider, who leaps to all that one's squares, completing an interesting field with Buddha and Rakshasa. Aronson points out Dabbabante is leaper not rider to all Dabbabah-rider squares,
http://www.chessvariants.org/large.dir/dabbabante-chess.html. Then later and long after Parton, Ramayana,
http://www.chessvariants.org/large.dir/contest84/ramayanachess.html, creates Buddha and Rakshasa for counterparts of Rook and Bishop as all-leaping to theirs. Unsubtle Buddha subsumes Dabbabante, since Rook empowered reaches all Dabbabah-rider squares and more. Whereas all the others oblique of ''From Ungulates Outward'' are already leapers, it follows that compounds of them, with Buddha, Rakshasa, and Nightrider, progressing outwards, reach every square at option with a single leap. That makes the multi-compounds Conway Angels from 1970s problem themes. Their individual parts conceived, NN-all, Rook-all, Bishop-all, are more interesting than full-fledged Angels. (Different Angels can be n=3,4,5, or anything.)
