The site http://pika.cs.nctu.edu.tw is down, and there is no way to download the zrf for the variants that were in that site
http://boreiyu.myweb.hinet.net/lit/Wuji-Chess.zip Now it is available again.
Sounds like an interesting game... I don't speak chinese, so the only characters that I recognize are the ones from chinese chess. Can you identify by name the other new (for me) characters on the rules? I'm interested in this new (for me) Bomb piece. You said that when a Bomb captures pieces except other Bomb, Bomb is removed from the board. Does this mean that a Bomb can not attack another Bomb? or that only the captured Bomb is removed from the board?
Bomb can not attack another Bomb. Some characters 1. Horses move like a Knight in Western Chess. http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E9%A6%AC&submitButton1=Etymology http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E5%82%8C&submitButton1=Etymology 2. Elephant moves like a Bishop in Western Chess. http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E8%B1%A1&submitButton1=Etymology http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E7%9B%B8&submitButton1=Etymology 3. Minister moves like a Queen in Western Chess. http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E5%8D%BF&submitButton1=Etymology 4. Reckless move like a Camel in Timur's Chess. http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E8%9A%A9&submitButton1=Etymology 5. Mandarin must stay confined to the fortress, and can only move a single step diagonally. Whithin the fortress, it can jump one of empty squares adjacent horizontally or vertically to the player's own King. http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E4%BB%95&submitButton1=Etymology http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E5%A3%AB&submitButton1=Etymology 6. Bomb move like a Rook in Chess. When capturing pieces except other Bomb, Bomb is removed from the board. When captured, the capturing piece is also removed from the board. http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E9%9C%87&submitButton1=Etymology 7.Love move like a Bishop without capture in Western Chess, that is, any number of squares diagonally. Only Bomb and Soldier can capture Love. When staying in the player's own zone, Love can slide diagonally backwards to capture. http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E6%84%9B&submitButton1=Etymology http://www.chineseetymology.org/CharacterASP/CharacterEtymology.aspx?characterInput=%E8%89%BE&submitButton1=Etymology
What's the use of the river then? Just to define the point where the pawns get their aditional moves? If this is the case, this game could have been even better without the River altogether, allowing the Pawns their full range of moves from the start. I downloaded the Zillions file. So pawns here (once they cross the river) can also move diagonally forward (in addition to sideways). You should add this fact (pawn's diagonal forward move) to the exceptions list in the rules page.
I really like the new Mandarin in this game! Kudos to Zheng Lei for this Mandarin invention!
I retract my initial comment regarding the lack of usefullness of the river in this game. I've played a few games on Zillions and now see the tactical need of preventing pawns to capture sideways before crossing the river. I'm still not fully convinced though of the Pawns' diagonal capturing ability after crossing the river.
The site for the Zillions-of-Games file was archived only once in 2013. So it may be long gone. When I searched for Wuji Chinese Chess, this page was the only relevant search result. I also can't find it at the Zillions-of-Games website. So, we have no information on the game. I would recommend deleting this page unless the author updates it soon.
Jose, would you happen to still have the Zillions-of-Games file for Wuji Chinese Chess? The original link no longer works.
Fergus,
No I don't have it anymore. I searched my backups but can't find it.
I sent Yu Ren Dong an email asking him if the ZRF is still available.
Fergus,
Got the WujiChess.zrf !!!
Yu Ren Dong emailed it to me.
I'll email it to you.
The Zillions-of-Games control file has been uploaded. Thanks, Jose, for getting that for us!
