Great that you rediscovered the 135-degree-rose. I did not name it back in 2002 but I don't like the name "Worsen" – to me it only sounds like a verb with the meaning "to make worse; to become worse".

I suggest "Rose of Jericho" for this piece. The move pattern reminds me to the ball shape of that plant in dried up state.

Can you please spoil if there are my pieces also?

Right now, all I have in the set are four half-Walls, an unbroken Chain, and At-Sign and Hashtag symbols.

(This reminds me: I still need to upload a small batch of new ones that I made just before my desktop 'puter went silent....)

Can you please spoil if there are my pieces also?

Glad to "hear" it! I find the Inkscape part a little less tedious if I make several Tinkercad SVGs in a row, and run them through Inkscape as a sort of batch. If nothing else, it saves me from entering most of the specifications more than once.

A. M. DeWitt wrote on Wed, Aug 14 04:18 PM UTC in reply to Bob Greenwade from Tue Aug 13 03:28 PM:

So far Tinkercad + Inkscape is working beautifully. A bit tedious to be sure, but that was a given by default.

Bob Greenwade wrote on Tue, Aug 13 03:28 PM UTC in reply to A. M. DeWitt from 03:03 PM:

All that would be left to do is figure out how to change the color of the SVGs. but I can always use tools in the code to do that.

If nothing else, you could just use the "Fill" function in Inkscape.

And as I said before, if something seems lacking just let me know.

Actually, I think it may be best if I do use your SVGs for a Chu set, if that's okay with you.

I can't think of a circumstance where that would not be okay.

I'm sorry, but I cannot get these links to work at all.

I have decided to make my email address public, so you can send the files via an email to me.

Well, I did use your pieces for a Western set for the Chu Shogi Applet (via fen2.php) using single icons, so if I decide to include pictogram SVGs, I think I'm covered there.

Thanks. I was thinking about making some Chu Shogi SVGs.

Anything that I can add, that can't already be done by combining what I have?

François Houdebert wrote on Sun, Aug 11 07:39 AM UTC in reply to A. M. DeWitt from Sat Aug 10 07:49 PM:

Here's also a set of 100 px icons that could be used as the basis for an interactive diagram set. It can, of course, be improved.

Someone might have downloaded it.

here is a one week link : http://biscandine.fr/echange/f.php?h=39JMHvYp&d=1

Send an email if you need more information because it's not yet mature enough to be shared more widely

Nothing on my end. Just says that it could not be found.

I have some svg (mnemonic or jocly style). If you need, I can share.

A sample would be interesting to see. Maybe we could even include a Jocly graphics directory.

For now though, I'm taking a break from inventing Chess variants to work on some other things and myself. I'm currently finishing up my Chu Shogi Applet with Assorted Tsumeshogis by adding in the remaining workable tsumeshogis from H. G. Muller's MSM Errata (only one left is D63). It's kind of a prelude to a stand-alone program I plan on making that allows you to play Chu Shogi.

I'll still be around to review submissions from time to time.

I use Tinkercad for the basic generation, and Inkscape to make them site-compliant.

Thanks. I was thinking about making some Chu Shogi SVGs.

I can list off the specification numbers, if you need them.

Shouldn't be too important unless you are using features that are known to be deprecated.

@Bob Greenwade,

What program do you use to make those SVG graphics of yours?

Bob Greenwade wrote on Thu, Aug 1 02:44 PM UTC in reply to Lev Grigoriev from 08:13 AM:

Ohhh, sorry, facepalm…)

You can say that again!

It turns out, rather to my annoyance, that my computer problem wasn't with my computer at all, but with my uninterruptible power supply, which needed to be reset.

Meaning I could've had it going in a half hour if I'd tried it in the first place.

Ah well... with the month-long delay, this will no longer be Piece of the Day. It'll just be a Piece Index once I get things going again.

(And yes, I probably will make a single-page index of the bunch.)

Bob Greenwade wrote on Fri, Jun 28 03:16 AM UTC in reply to Fergus Duniho from Wed Jun 26 10:03 PM:

I suspect that mine's something similar, but more complicated....

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Wed, Jun 26 10:03 PM UTC in reply to Bob Greenwade from 07:54 PM:

My desktop has an insensitive power button that often fails to turn the computer on when I press it. I usually have to find a way to press it at the right angle to turn it on. Despite this trouble, I do manage to turn it on each day. One day when it was becoming more insensitive, I cleaned out the dust from it, and it became more responsive again.

Bob Greenwade wrote on Wed, Jun 26 07:54 PM UTC:

After coming back from my trip, I found that my desktop computer, which I'd turned off for my absence (to save electricity) wouldn't staert up. Since it's a necessary tool for PotD, I'll have to wait uintil I get it going again before resuming the list.

Note to self: the next entry would've been Tuesday, 25 June (yesterday).
