The between the 5th and 6th ranks is called River.

The point where the diagonal lines intersect and the eight points around it is called Palace.

Pieces

Pawn(P. 兵/卒) : Moves one step orthogonally forward. A Pawn that has reached the enemy camp(6~10th rank) can also move one step orthogonally sideways.

Rook (R. 俥/車) : Moves any number of steps orthogonally.

Cannon (C. 炮/砲) : Slides orthogonally when not capturing, but must hop over a single piece to capture. (The Cannon can hop over a piece only when it captures piece.)

Horse (H. 傌/馬) : Moves one step orthogonally and then one step further diagonally.

Elephant (E. 相/象) : Moves one step orthogonally and then two steps further diagonally.

Rhino (I. 犀) : Moves two steps orthogonally and then one step further diagonally.

Ox (O. 牛) : Moves two steps diagonally. It cannot go into the enemy camp.

Advisor (A. 仕/士) : Moves one step diagonally. it cannot leave the palace.

General (G. 帥/將) : Moves one step orthogonally. it cannot leave the palace.

 - A player who loses General loses.

Horse, Elephant, Rhino and Ox cannot move in that direction when there is a piece on the path.

Rules

 1. The arrangement of the pieces is fixed.

 2. The diagonal line of the palace does not affect the movement of the piece. Therefore, a piece that moves orthogonally cannot move diagonally even if it is on a diagonal line.

 3. The two Generals cannot face each other. In other words, when two Generals are in the same row, there should be no pieces between them. If two Generals face each other, the player who created the situation loses.

 4. When all Pawns of one player are captured, all Advisors and Elephants of both players are promoted at that point. Promoted Advisors and Elephants can go anywhere. (So the Advisor can go outside the palace and the Elephant can go outside the friendly camp.)

 5. A Pawn on the 9th or 10th rank can move one step orthogonally backward.

 6. You must move the piece on your turn.

 7. The stalemate player loses.

If the same state occurs 3 times in a row, it is a draw. that is, if the position of the pieces, the number of pieces caught, and the turn are exactly the same 3 times in a row, the 长将(Changjiang) is established and the match becomes a draw. but if you make the same state 3 times as a repetitive check, you are defeated.

If a draw is made due to Changjiang or lack of piece, the match is played again by swapping first player and second player.
