<p>Alice Chess is a popular variant where the pieces, like Lewis Carroll's heroine, go "through the looking glass" to a Mirror board and then back to a Normal board. Curiouser and curiouser, you can use a single board to represent the Normal and Mirror boards at the same time.</p> <P>This ZRF uses a single board for Alice Chess. It was written in 1999 for the original version of Zillions. It does not implement en passant or castling.</P> <p>The file contains five variants:</p> <ul> <li>Alice Chess <em>The variant invented by V.R. Parton in 1953</em></li> <li>Alice Mirror <em>Black pieces start on the Mirror board</em></li> <li>Alice Zero <em>Pieces can switch board while staying on the same square</em></li> <li>Alice Grand <em>An Alice version of Christian Freeling's Grand Chess</em></li> <li>Alice Extinction <em>An Alice version of Extinction Chess</em></li> </ul>
Download Instructions
The ZRF file and its accompanying graphics are bundled together in a .zip file. These will work with Zillions of Games, a Windows program that will let you play any puzzle or strategy board game you can feed it the rules and graphics for.
Instructions on downloading this Zillions file:
- Download the .zip file
- Using a program such as PeaZip or 7-Zip, extract the contents of the .zip file to your Zillions of Games folder
- Be sure to keep the folder structure intact when you extract the files.
