I’ve decided (long time ago, but written it just now) to add the pawns. Probably I will calibrate the rules (now pawn takes in en-passant style, but king still can’t take at all)

Another decisions {if these will go down} are 1. to make pawn capture diagonally by moving straight forward (as knight, capture is optional and can take up to 2 foes including cornered ones – now this version is omitted because pawns can start taking from 2nd move which’s not in my plans) and 2. let king capture in the same way as pawn does (also up to 2, also can take cornered; and it’s also omitted because otherwise it changes the character of the game even much more cardinally than the pawn tweak)

Material Cost[Subject Thread] [Add Response]
Diceroller is Fire wrote on Mon, Aug 14, 2023 12:44 PM UTC:

Returning to our discussion;))))))) I’ve understood that:

  • Archbishop costs 8 because it also covers neighboring squares (earlier I thought of it as of BFX discarding the nearness of covered squares); in my opinion it's because B part is long ranging (discarding N's moving's shortness) and N part is color-switching (discarding B's colorboundness) and jumping; so it is maneuverable. So Bishop's part there is 4, however Knight's one is also 4!
  • Imbalance of A+p > Q probably exists because Pawn is cooperative and "every pawn is potential Queen"(c)
  • Ultrabishop (BW) and Hyperrook (RF) are 7 and 8 relatively, because they BTW include the Doubler (K) moves (I thought of them like about BH or RA/RG discarding the nearness of covered squares).
  • Nightrider and Rook really have similar mobility on 8x8, but Nightrider is more maneuverable and Rook is more reliable.
  • Both Zip and Magician from Horizons have the cost of 9 on large (but not big) and free boards, but on 8x8 they really are 7 (M) and 8 (Z) because of their maneuverability and defense from the King (compare with Queen).
  • Bishop pair costs between 6,5 and 7 (when board is more free, Bishops' pair is more valuable).
  • Silver isn't as stabile in cost as I've thought before (in Orda Chess, it's Yurt which is decided to cost 2, but I disagree – maybe from 2,6 to 3,2).

What do you think about?

Diceroller is Fire wrote on Fri, Aug 18, 2023 07:59 PM UTC:

Lichess (my favorite site which offers adless free chess and some variants) has a more established version of Horde. White has 36 pawns (full 1-4 rows and b, c, f & g files on 5th row) and all pawns can move 2 squares from either 1st or 2nd rank. Stalemate (existence of pieces but no legal moves of side) is a draw. I can simply add this page to Lichess tag.

I don't know the reason comptuer makes Silver more valuable than all (exc. for King), when Silver must be a little cheaper than Knight. I tried to fix it manually and bring the Silver on his (normal) place, but it was started a flood of errors in GC preset. Before it worked, King was royal, but he moved as Silver (and castling was illegal), when Silvers were fully immobile. Very strange)))

This piece has the power of Queen. And I’ve found a checkmating tactic for the piece which controls the spaces around the files/ranks such as Aanca, Magician and one my piece I currently omit. This tactic appears in K vs K + piece endgames and is called wind tunnel (aerodynamic tunnel). Piece confines the King in a file/rank between its covered lines, and then your King drives it to the last rank, but to avoid stalemate, you should then cut off the previous-to-last line to avoid escaping of opponent’s King. But it’s better to firstly drive them as far as you can from board center and then confine into tunnel. For Aanca it’s possible on normal board, but less possible for Magician, though you shouldn’t forget that both these pieces are from games with 12x12 board.

Can you change author and inventor to me?

Diceroller is Fire wrote on Sun, Dec 10, 2023 05:27 PM UTC in reply to Fergus Duniho from 05:02 PM:

Done!

BTW how to delete GC presets?

Diceroller is Fire wrote on Sun, Dec 10, 2023 07:22 PM UTC in reply to Fergus Duniho from 06:00 PM:

Thanks a lot for publishing this game!

But if you want to delete a preset, I can do that after making sure it is not being used in any game logs.

Delete these ones please: https://www.chessvariants.com/play/pbm/play.php?game=Chess&settings=joyfulchess https://www.chessvariants.com/play/pbm/play.php?game=Chess&settings=Ttt https://www.chessvariants.com/play/pbm/play.php?game=Chess&settings=rojo

I’ve uploaded to this directory (/membergraphics/who/CryInto) plenty of nearby 30px wide images of my joyful pieces. They’re very small and can be used on custom grid in Game Courier, or as small pics on pages (instead of big ones from nursery room;)). This set is called joyful-small (note for editors) and includes pieces for Crazy 38’s (and consequently Chess) and Rocket Chess.

The whole era of manual notifying is gone…

If you turn auto-notifier’s personID into blacklist, all is brilliant.

I forgot to post yesterday's Piece of the Day, so...

132. Virtuoso. I initially proposed Virtuoso as an alternate name for an Amazonrider, but then I realized that the Virtuoso needed to be something truly broad. So, it's more than just a Queen plus Nightrider; it's basically a Queen plus Buffalorider. (QNNCCZZ)

150. Virtuoso. Initially I started using this name as an alternate for the Amazonrider. Then I settled on Centauride, and found a need to expand the name, so I compounded not just the Queen and Nightrider but also the Camelrider and Zebrarider. (QNNCCZZ)

...I also like music... but bruh)

I have a suggestion for you now (and many of them later))). This is Astra (aka Astral leaper or Altleaper). It's already used in unknown (and really written in 20 minutes when each of them could be the last) GC preset of my own CwDA, and in one of my most favourite (non-square) inventions - Rocket Chess!

However, its shining debut is still not happened...

...and it's probably the most or one of the most successful example of amphiby synergy...

Re-Ghost Chess. The last captured piece turns into leaping transparent ghost and isn’t able to capture but still can check. (8x8, Cells: 64) [All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]

Please review also in next 72 hours. I will be glad)

OK fixed. About icons: I’ve just said in Setup section how pieces not common to chess variants are represented on image.
